Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole is set to be sent out on loan to French champions Lille, as first team opportunities at Anfield are not forthcoming.
The 29-year-old has had a frustrating time on Merseyside since joining The Reds from Chelsea in July 2010, and now looks likely to move to Rudy Garcia’s side on a one-year loan deal.
Reports in The Daily Mail indicate that the Islington born man travelled across the channel on Tuesday to undergo a medical with the current Ligue 1 title holders, with a deal set to be completed on Wednesday.
Tottenham and QPR were both said to be interested in the 56-times capped England international, but the chance to play in the Champions League may well be too good to turn down.
The news has sparked speculation that Lille could be willing to sell star playmaker Eden Hazard on deadline day, with Arsenal and Inter monitoring the situation.
Meanwhile, Liverpool are also set to sell Christian Poulsen to Ligue 1 side Evian, with the Premier League outfit confirming a deal had been reached.
“Liverpool FC have tonight confirmed that they have reached agreement with Evian Thonon Gaillard for the transfer of Christian Poulsen. The French side have now been given permission to talk to the Denmark international,” a statement on their official website has read.
The former Juventus midfielder has been a massive disappointment since joining the Anfield club, and is further down Kenny Dalglish’s pecking order following the summer signings of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.
