A court in Paris has assigned two judges to investigate the situation after Mbappe lodged a complaint on May 16, according to . The investigation and case run parallel to the ongoing dispute between the player and PSG over unpaid wages.

Mbappe's complaint outlined how he was placed on the sidelines over a disagreement regarding a contract extension. In 2022, PSG announced Mbappe had signed a contract until 2025, but in reality he had agreed to a two-year deal with an option to extend further. In 2023, the club pushed him to trigger the option to prevent him leaving for free the following year by dropping him from the squad.
Mbappe, who then left for Madrid in a free transfer in 2024, has accused PSG of moral harassment and attempted extortion.

PSG aren't the only club accused of dumping players in an attempt to make them sign a new contract or accept an offer from elsewhere. The Professional Footballers' Union filed a complaint back in January 2024 against French clubs for the same practice. Earlier, PSG women’s team player Kheira Hamraoui sued PSG for similar treatment.
