According to Belgian outlet Sporza, Josy Comhair, the agent of Genk winger Leandro Trossard, has claimed that Arsenal told him “Leandro has a very interesting profile for them and that they have been following him since August.”
What’s the story?
23-year-old attacker Trossard has been in fine form for the Belgian outfit so far this season. The left-winger has already racked up an impressive tally of fifteen goals and four assists in eighteen appearances in all competitions.
This form has apparently attracted the interests of some top English clubs, but the Gunners appear to be leading the chase for the former Belgium under-21 international’s signature.
Playmaker FC’s Theo Ogden was at the Emirates to witness Arsenal’s qualification for the Europa League last 32. Check out his match diary in the video below…
The north London club would certainly be wise to seriously consider launching a January bid to land Trossard, as he could provide Unai Emery’s squad with extra cover in an area of the pitch where they are short. With a Transfermarkt valuation of just £9 million, he also represents an affordable target.
The next generation of Arsenal stars
Danny Welbeck’s serious injury (TalkSport), recently sustained in a Europa League clash with Sporting, has left the Gunners short of first team options on the left flank. The arrival of Trossard at the Emirates stadium would give the team greater depth in this position.
The acquisition of Trossard would also represent another step forward in Emery’s project of building an Arsenal team for the future. Alongside summer signings Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira, and academy products Hector Bellerin, Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Alex Iwobi and Eddie Nketiah, Trossard would represent the next generation of promising first team Arsenal stars.
